Josue Martinez
Director of Orchestral Activities, Westlake High School
Josue Martinez serves as the Director of Orchestral Activities at Westlake High School, where he has been a faculty member since 2021. Mr. Martinez holds a Bachelor of Music Education and a Master of Music in Instrumental Conducting from Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. He began his teaching career in the Eanes Independent School District in 2016 at West Ridge Middle School.

Under his leadership, the Westlake Orchestras have consistently earned sweepstakes at UIL Concert and Sight-Reading, Full Orchestra and String Orchestra, received superior rankings at Solo and Ensemble and produced numerous members of the TMEA All-Region and All-State orchestras. Most recently, his orchestras gained recognition at the National Orchestra Festival with the American String Teachers Association.

In addition to his role at Westlake High School, Mr. Martinez is an active musician in the Greater Austin Area. He conducts the Philharmonic Orchestra for the Austin Youth Orchestra and regularly performs on the Double Bass with several local orchestras.

He is a member of multiple professional organizations, including the Texas Music Educators Association, American String Teachers Association, Texas Orchestra Directors Association, International Society of Bassists, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity, among others.

Mr. Martinez has been honored several times with the Golden Apple Award at Westlake High School, an accolade given by students to recognize teachers who have significantly impacted their lives. Outside of his professional commitments, he enjoys spending time at home with his spouse and their two terriers, Artemis and Buster.
